Current travel situation

The situation regarding Corona has eased. (As of July 23) We strongly recommend all travellers: Full vaccination protection and proof of foreign travel health insurance (in English) that you are allowed to be treated abroad because of Covid.

Entry in general: Since mid-December 2020, you can enter Oman without a visa for up to 14 days. This applies to people from 109 countries (including Germany and most European countries). If you want to stay longer than 14 days, you must apply for a visa electronically in advance.

Oman across Ages - Oman's new museum highlight

After about 15 minutes drive from Nizwa towards Salalah, you will reach the new Oman Across Ages Museum, the largest in the country, in Manah (just south of the town center). Fascinating in terms of architecture and presentation, the Oman Across Ages Museum opened in March 2023. Vividly, interactively and successfully multimedia-based, one gets an overview of the history of the country from prehistoric times to the present, seafaring, trade, society, art and culture as well as economy. A large section is dedicated to the "Renaissance", which refers to the social and economic upswing that Sultan Qaboos (reigned 1970 to 2020) achieved for his country. Also highly recommended for families with children, barrier-free. open daily from 09 to 17, Fridays only in the afternoon.

Reorientation of tourism in Oman under Sultan Haitham

Before Haitham bin Tariq Al Said was appointed as Sultan Qaboos' successor in January 2020, he held the post of Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

One of his first acts as Sultan was to merge this ministry with the Ministry of Tourism to form the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. This gave impetus to ideas of local private initiatives to set up small inns, restaurants and cafés in existing old buildings in need of renovation. The impossibility of travelling abroad during the Corona pandemic also led to Omanis increasingly exploring their own country, thus creating a new clientele for such initiatives.

As a result of this development over the last 2 years, one can now discover nice little inns and cafés in many places, where one is sure to always meet Omanis.
