The book "Omani Presence in East Africa" deals with the mutual influence and exchange between the two cultures in the areas of clothing, agriculture, politics, art, religion, society and music, and also includes such topics as the ivory and slave trade. Also largely unknown in the West is the role of the Omani trader Tippu Tip, who provided decisive assistance to almost all European African explorers, be it David Livingstone or Henry M. Stanley.
After about 15 minutes drive from Nizwa towards Salalah, you will reach the new Oman Across Ages Museum, the largest in the country, in Manah (just south of the town center). Fascinating in terms of architecture and presentation, the Oman Across Ages Museum opened in March 2023. Vividly, interactively and successfully multimedia-based, one gets an overview of the history of the country from prehistoric times to the present, seafaring, trade, society, art and culture as well as economy. A large section is dedicated to the "Renaissance", which refers to the social and economic upswing that Sultan Qaboos (reigned 1970 to 2020) achieved for his country.
