Storage in the "Bait al Qafl"

Bait al-qafl means "House of the lock". It is here where goods are kept under lock and key. These houses exist only on the Musandam peninsula and some are over 200 years old. It is here where goods are kept under lock and key. The mighty, technically complicated door lock is a major part of this type of house, unique in Arabia. It serves to secure the clay storage jars and grain in the Bedouin’s buildings from thieves during their absence in the summer months.

These houses exist only on the Musandam peninsula. Some are over 200 years old and maintained by the local families.
