The Nakhl Fort
The castle towers majestically on a promontory overlooking the oasis and provides a particularly popular photo op. It is remarkable how the natural rock and architecture coalesce. The six towers offer a stunning view over the palm-covered oasis and ensured its control in the past. The fortifications include a large area with a forecourt where events can be held. Its history dates back to the 3rd century AD, to the time of the Sassanid occupation of the area. Most of the surviving buildings are from the 16th century. Several rooms are equipped with everyday objects and furniture, which provide a vivid impression of the functions of the fortress.
